Inspired by the Japanese Masters and their depictions of Mount Fuji, I created this calendar showing the Sugarloaf Mountain in Co. Wicklow, Ireland, from a dozen viewpoints. I saw the mountain every morning as I drove through the Scalp from Dublin to Enniskerry. The Japanese were very innovative in their composition and ‘obscured’ views of the mountain showing aspects of contemporary life. They also wrote on their images. I had fun creating my own little series in homage to those artists. The calendars have sold out for 2022. I will be making a 2023 edition.
If you would like to order a limited edition print of any of the images from the series (signed and numbered) please contact Mags by email firstname.lastname@example.org
I sometimes do commissions for people. This was a present for some kind friends. The heart is made up entirely with their written names; Adeline+Florence. The other was a series of poems I copied for a rembrance ceremony
I recently worked with a wonderful group of children painting a mural at the entrance to the Oratory in Dun Laoghaire. This Oratory was decorated by Sr Concepta Lynch. It is an amazing example of Celtic Revival art. The children were from the local Dun Laoghaire Domincan School. Here’s a link to a 2min film about the project
I’m delighted to have my work shown on the Future Learn online course run by Trinity College. Personally I am really enjoying the course which is running for four weeks and is free. Apparently you will see some of my work on next week’s section.
The piece attached is an imagined Twitter feed from one monk in Ireland (Scribe A) to another called Kevin (KevinKells) , who is based in Kells. The monks have been warned to leave Iona to escape the Vikings. All the illustrations are copied from the Book of Kells.
